Our class is suitable for a wide range of climates and locations. We have students from over 7 countries. We cover beekeeping in warm and cold climates. We address how to properly overwinter your hive in cold climates and what beekeepers in warm climates do. We worked with beekeepers in Massachusetts, Maine, Pennsylvania and Hawaii to provide information for beekeepers of almost every climate zone. Our farm is currently located in Hawaii where we have bees in a semi-arid desert as well as in a very wet, humid area. Prior to moving to Hawaii, we kept bees in Pennsylvania where we had cold winters with frost and snow.

Yes! If you purchased the Platinum version of Beekeeping for Beginners, you are welcome to contact us with beekeeping questions whenever you like, as many times as you need to while you get started with your bees. It doesn't have to be an emergency. We encourage you to ask questions and hope that you will take advantage of our knowledge.  

Asking questions helps us too! They give us ideas for new lessons to add to our classes, YouTube videos we can shoot or podcast topic ideas.

If you purchased the basic version of Beekeeping for Beginners, you are still welcome to post questions and comments in class notes. However, we do not offer one-on-one private messaging.

There are a few other online beekeeping classes. Most are held by entomology departments at universities. I took one of these classes to see how they compared to mine and this is what I found.

A university class by an entomologist will teach you about bee biology and the basics of beekeeping. Once it comes to how to store equipment at your home, make supplies, harvest in your house and varroa mite treatments, that is where these classes lack. These classes are held by scientists that have bees at their job with a university budget. They are not hobby beekeepers and do not have to deal with some of the extra issues that come along with keeping bees at home on a small scale.

These classes will teach you more about the entomology of bees. So if you really want a diagram of a bee along with all of the body parts labeled or want to learn how to mash up bees and put them under a microscope to see if they have nosema, a university class is for you.

There are a few private companies that also have a beekeeping course. Our class is the only one, that I am aware of, that is video-based, offers everyone complete access to the full course for a free trial and mentorship. Some classes are text-based with no videos and others are a membership-based site where you are "dripped" content every month. I chose to mentorship with my course because that was one of the reasons why I struggled my first few years as a beekeeper. Most questions about beekeeping can be answered by watching the class or any number of YouTube videos. However, sometimes you just need to talk to someone who's been doing it longer that you. Tell them your unique situation and ask them what they would do. Having someone like this to troubleshoot with on occasion is what can make your first few years as a beekeeper enjoyable.

Absolutely. We start from scratch assuming you don't know a thing about bees or beekeeping. Not just so that anyone can follow along, but because some of the things you might know could be wrong. So we start from square one and go through the basics. 

There is never a point at which a lesson is too complicated to follow, even as a non-beekeeper. I do not get too technical or require you to buy expensive equipment. I like to keep it simple.

This doesn't mean I leave anything out that you need to know. It's the opposite! People have been keeping bees for hundreds of years without needing expensive equipment or reading 300-page textbooks. Beekeeping is more than technical jargon!

Laryssa Kwoczak will be your instructor. She has been keeping bees for over 12 years. She began as a hobby beekeeper with top bar hives on the roof of a garage in downtown Philadelphia. She later moved to Hawaii to work for a variety of commercial operations including the country's largest USDA organic honey company. 

She currently owns and is head beekeeper for the apiary, Bee Happy, where they harvest comb honey. 

She started the West Hawaii Beekeeping Association in 2017 and has been giving beekeeping tours and classes for the last 7 years.
